Gedem is a caravan guard of local renown, born to a wainwright in Yanmass. He was obsessed as a child by the yarns spun by the traveling people, stories of wondrous beast, sandmen and stranger things. So it was to be that growing into manhood, Gedem became a common sellsword over the respected trade of his father. Fortunately, he proved to be a skilled fighter and is the veteran of the many trade runs from which he amassed a small personal fortune. He has been hired on occasion to serve as chief of an auxiliary militia in Yanmass whenever a large number of Taldan Horse Legion is called away to battle. Though still spry Gedem realizes the limitations of his aging body, being trusted instead for his martial experience and strategic insight.
Gedem has no fewer than 3 ex-wives who all live in Yanmass and between them has 3 daughters and 5 sons of varying ages. He sometimes exercises his status in the city in order to gain information on, tail or trouble the many suitors that try to woo his daughters. He tends to hide out from the incessant nagging of his current wife at The Golden Goat, where the barkeep Old-Man Jakuni is a lifelong friend of his.
